Why we LOVE the Duchess of Sussex's facial features

If you are like me, you (and the rest of the world) have been captivated by Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, with her passion for humanitarian rights, grace, and beauty.  Imitation can be the greatest form of flattery.  As such it is no surprise that patients are seeking treatments to achieve her rosy glow, nose, and smile, to name a few.

As a Facial Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeon, during a consultation, evaluating and analyzing facial features is a very important initial step.  Based on these measurements, we can determine what changes can be made and how to achieve a patient’s goals.  Meghan has a very interesting nose and I’d like to share my analysis of her nose and facial aesthetics below from a picture of her in 2016 (reference at bottom).

When we perform facial analysis, we take measurements from the side (profile) and front views.  We measure angles and ratios and compare them to “ideals” or standards of beauty.  As we all know, the standard of beauty is constantly in flux and each of us defines our own brand of beauty.  Therefore, these standards and ideals have to be taken with a grain of salt.  It is simply a reference point for achieving balance, harmony and proportion to a face.

When we look at Meghan’s front view, she has a beautiful smile that draws you in and eyes that pop.  The ideal width of the nose is to have the edges of the nasal ala (nostrils) in vertical alignment with the inner corners of the eye (medial canthus).  You can see on the left most picture here that Meghan’s nostrils are slightly wider than the inner corners of her eyes.

The “ideal” face can be divided vertically into equal thirds and horizontally into equal fifths.  I have overlaid a grid onto Meghan’s 2nd and 3rd picture.  In the 2nd picture, you can see that the bottom and middle vertical sections are almost exactly equal but the top most section is a ½ block taller than the other 2.  In the 3rd picture, you can see that her 3 center horizontal sections are very symmetrical and even. The outermost 2 sections are slightly wider by a ½ block.

Similar to my previous post on Meghan Markle - this is a shapshot analysis of some aspects of Meghan's beautiful facial features.  Many other measurements and considerations go into nasal analysis and facial analysis.  I appreciate her strength, poise, intelligence, and beauty and can't wait to see how she will continue to work with the Royal family to make our world better for everyone.
